Review

3/5 stars - fun read but you won't come out of it with anything significant

I'll be honest, I haven't finished the book. I would read it after school in the library, never checking it out because I put off signing up for a library card until I didn't even live in that town anymore. However, I did get decently through. It's been so long I would probably have to re-read the book in order to enjoy it properly, but for an 800 page book, it didn't have much going on. It had so much potential to create any forms of metaphors for catholicism, motherhood, or just in general religion that never actually happened. The book feels like there are biblical allegories, but the excessive use of similes is just that. I enjoy the aesthetic of the book and there are definitely some good lines in there; the idea of God being put on trial for all his murders and having his son's death be his punishment could have been so good if it wasn't just used for the catholica horror setting of the book. It's a fun read if you just want something entertaining; definitely not boring at least.
